Protests against AfD party Meeting in Cologne

More then 10000 people gather to protest against the AfD party meeting in Cologne. On April 22nd 2017 activists set up road blocks in the morning to make it harder for participants to reach the Maritim Hotel where the meeting is held until April 23rd. Police pushed into roadblocks several times and arrested some activists. Party members were guided through counter-protest or had to enter the blocked area through some smaller roads.
At 11AM a huge counter-demonstration was held under the slogan “Solidarität statt Hetze”. A vast mass of citizens joined protest that stayed relatively peaceful. The only unpeaceful events we whitnessed were a broken window of a bank and a bottle that was thrown at a McDonalds restaurant.

I am a young freelance photo- and videojournalist currently based in the Munich area. Also I am founder of the page 24mmjournalism - what started as a small project to make my pictures available for the public has by now become a team project. My personal approach and declared goal is to document the fast-moving and always changing world around us. Protests and social movements are an often chosen way to display anger and mischief about conditions in our society. I try to deliver a wide-angle picture of those, confronting the viewer with the full width of the documented incident. 24mm of course also refers to my all favourite focal length and one of my best companions. Do not hesitate to contact me so we can get in touch - either if you have criticism on my work or want to join the 24mmjorunalism team!
